Routine surgeries postponed at hospitals

The trust that runs Pilgrim Hospital has postponed all ‘routine elective surgery’ at its hospitals from tomorrow.

It was revealed by University Hospitals Lincolnshire earlier today that two people have tested positive for Covid-19 are being treated in the Boston hospital and a further case at the County Hospital in Lincoln.

Now the trust has cancelled all non-emergency operations at those two hospitals and the ones it runs in Louth and Grantham.

A spokesman said: “United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) is today announcing that all routine elective surgery is being postponed from tomorrow (Tuesday March 24).

“This move is being made as part of our response to the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, enabling hospitals to free up staff to care for patients in other areas.

“From tomorrow, all day case and elective routine surgery will be cancelled at Lincoln County Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital, Boston and Grantham and District Hospital.

“This does not include cancer surgery and other clinically urgent cases.

“All affected patients will be contacted directly to inform them of the cancellation.”
