£48,500 prize gives young people a chance to dance

More youngsters will have a chance to dance in South Holland after a dance troupe was given a big financial boost.

Dance Factor Lincolnshire, which is supported by South Holland District Council, has been awarded the runners-up prize from ITV’s The People’s Millions fund.

Thanks to public votes the project will receive £48,500 to take dance into local communities across Lincolnshire, including South Holland, providing over 750 young people with free evening street dance sessions that culminate in a Grand Final showcase event in 2015.

Despite losing their initial head-to-head battle against another regional project on November 24, Dance Factor received the highest number of public votes out of the other projects who also lost their head-to-head competitions.

This qualified Dance Factor, which is a partnership project led by InspireDance, for the runner’s up prize.

A spokesperson for South Holland District Council said: “This is fantastic news for Dance Factor and also for young people in South Holland.

“The funding will enable more youngsters to get involved in a positive activity, become active, make new friends and take pride in representing their local area.”

Alice Carter, committee member of InspireDance, said: “After losing out earlier we were disappointed as through our campaign it had become even more apparent how needed and valued Dance Factor is within Lincolnshire.

“Receiving the news we had won the runners up prize from The People’s Millions was therefore amazing!

“We cannot thank everyone enough who has supported the project and all those who voted for us.”

Dance Factor Lincolnshire will be launching in the New Year. Information about the project can be found at http://dancefactorlincolnshire.weebly.com/
