16 and 17-year-olds can get walk in COVID-19 vaccinations

Those aged 16 and 17 can now visit Lincolnshire vaccination centres and get a COVID-19 vaccination.

It was announced last week those in the age group were being encouraged to come forward and get their jabs.

And NHS Lincolnshire say they don’t have to book with walk-in slots available throughout all opening at Boston and for one afternoon next week at Springfields.

The Pfizer vaccine will be administered on a first come first served basis and at busy times it may be necessary for you to wait.

Alternatively if you would prefer to have your vaccination at a location more local to you, please do wait and you will be contacted by the NHS who will confirm the details of where your appointment will be offered.

Rebecca Neno, director of COVID and Influenza Vaccination Programmes at NHS Lincolnshire CCG said: “This is fantastic news, during last weekend we saw almost 600, 16 and 17-year-olds attend for a vaccination in Lincolnshire and we are keen to continue to ensure vaccinations are available throughout our county to help make it was easy as possible for people to get vaccinated.

“I am therefore delighted to confirm that further walk in sessions will be available at Spalding, Skegness and Gainsborough during the next week and our local vaccination services are also directly inviting people to appointments.

“By offering this now we will be in a position to ensure that younger people will have some protection against the virus when they return to school or college in September.

“I would urge anyone to come along and receive their vaccination.”

Rebecca added: ‘The JCVI said it expected one dose of the vaccine would give the 16 and 17-year-old age group good protection against severe illness and around 80% protection against hospitalisation.

“Many people experience mild symptoms of Covid, but some are much less fortunate, the walk in sessions are not limited to those aged 16 & 17 and I would therefore encourage anyone who hasn’t yet had a vaccine, whatever their age, to come along and get protected.”

Springfields is to be open to walks in from 12noon until 7pm on Wednesday, August 25.

Walk in slots are also available across the county including at Boston’s Princess Royal Sports Arena from 8.30am to 7pm every day.
