Young Tulips keep on giving

A junior football team has continued to net thousands of pounds for charity.

Spalding United Under-13s Blues have raised £3,500 since forming through a host of events including running the Stamford Santa Fun Run every year they’ve been able to in the last four years.

This year 36 players, coaches and supporters took on the 5km course at Burghley House to raise money for the Bobby Copping Foundation which provides mental health support in sport.

The fundraising hasn’t stopped for this year as the team is holding a Race Night at the Sir Halley Stewart on Saturday, December 16 to raise funds towards a defibrillator for Cowbit Village Hall near to where the young Tulips play.

The team is coached by Lee Black whose twin sons Harry and Bertie are part of the squad.

“I’m so chuffed with our fundraising this year, especially at such a tough time financially,” Lee said. “A lot of football teams are just about football but we’re about furthering the kids themselves.

“It’s been said there’s a one per cent chance of turning a kid into a footballer but we’ve a 100 per cent chance of turning them into decent humans.”

Tickets to the race night on December 16 are available from Lee on 07419 332999.
