Young people in National Citizen Service scheme doing great things

Young people taking part in National Citizen Service in Spalding have been busy.

The personal development programme is for those aged 16/17 who commit time to enhancing their own personal development whilst giving back to their local community.

One group of 16 students has been on two residential phases and been working towards a social action project.
And as a fundraising venture, the group did a 5k fancy dress sponsored walk (pictured), raising £600 for The Alzheimer’s Society.

Another cohort raised around £500 for the charity When You Wish Upon A Star thanks to local businesses donating towards a tombola and cake fair held at Springfields (below).
They also repainted outside furniture at Southfields Care Home in Woolram Wygate.

A third cohort organised a car wash outside B&Q in Winfrey Avenue Retail Park and a sponsored sleepover in aid of Pennygate Foundation Centre, which they also helped paint.
Ellie Taylor said of son Reece: “NCS has been great for him with his autism and anxiety.
“He has overcome so many challenges and made some fab friends and should graduate in September with all the others.”
