Young guns on fine form

The second round of Turnbulls Tommy Clay Track and Field Development Series once again saw South Holland athletes in fine form on Friday night.

At under-13 level, Jack Clark-Atkins impressed in his first triple jump contest at the Boston venue with 9.06m, while also competing in both the javelin and 200m.

In the under-13 girls’ section, Issy Reid also impressed as she won both the triple jump (7.80m) and javelin.

Another on-song was under-15 Hayden Quantrill, who won the triple jump (7.75m), crossed the finish line first at the end of his 200m heat (30.3secs) and finished sixth in the open 1,500m race.

Meanwhile, in her first season in the under-17 women’s age group, Megan Reid produced an encouraging 8.14m in her maiden triple jump outing.

Down the age groups, Noah Donnelly-Coles was one of 17 youngsters from six different clubs and schools competing at under-11 level. He won the standing triple jump (3.98m) and also finished runner-up in his 150m heat (26.5secs).

Devan Quantrill’s best finishing position was in his 150m heat, which he won in 26.5 secs.

Elsewhere, Mia Clark-Atkins recorded 32.6secs in the under-9 girls’ 150m race and Flynn Donnelly-Coles placed second in both the under-9 boys’ standing triple jump (2.98m) and whizzer throw (8.00m).

The next round is on Friday, May 28 with the first event at 6.30pm. Entry and registration is from 5.50pm on the evening.
