A Spalding woman emptied a bag of weeds over a neighbour during an argument that had been triggered by her partner going into the neighbour’s garden to clear it of weeds.
Tracey Mills, 48, of Severn Road, admitted assaulting Elaine Mayfield by beating as well as threatening to damage her windows, when she appeared before magistrates in Boston.
Prosecuting, Marie Stace said that there had been a disagreement between Mrs Mills and her neighbour,
Mrs Mayfield in the afternoon of July 17, because Mrs Mills’ partner had been going into neighbours’ gardens to clear weeds.
Although her partner had left the garden, Mrs Mills emptied the contents of a bag of weeds over Mrs Maxwell, causing her to lose her balance and having to raise her walking stick to get her balance back. Her age was not mentioned in court.
She said the police attended and Mrs Mills was arrested and as she was being taken away by police officers, she shouted to Mrs Mayfield: “This is all your fault. I’m going to put a brick though your window.”
Mrs Mills later told officers she would not have really done this and asked to be taken home to ask Mrs Mayfield to let ‘bygones be bygones’.
Mitigating, Justin Atkinson said Mrs Mills’ partner had been helping her deal with a rat infestation and was clearing weeds from her neighbours’ gardens where he thought they were getting in.
“Regrettably this turned into an argument,” he said.
Imposing a six month conditional discharge, the magistrates said they didn’t want to underplay the importance of the incident to the parties involved, but they thought it was a ‘fairly minor incident’.
She was also ordered to pay £117 in court costs and charges.
