Winter League singles finalists stake their claims

With just a week remaining before the Crowson Volkswagen Pinchbeck & District Winter Darts League finals night, Friday saw the qualifying rounds for the prestigious Singles Championship, producing the full line-ups for both Division A and Division B.

In Division A, Lincoln Arms A will be represented by Sam Roberts, who secured his place with a 2-1 victory over teammate Steve Stancer in the final of their qualifying group at Pinchbeck Football Club.

Also progressing is Connor Mackenzie, of Pinchbeck FC B, who came through a tough group at the Lincoln Arms venue with a 2-1 win against Chris Fidler of Royal Mail Cart.

At the Green Dragon, Royal Mail Cart’s Ben Connell booked his place by defeating Josh Faulkner, of Consti Club C, again by a 2-1 margin.

Completing the line-up is Scott Lawrence, of Consti Club B, who overcame Phil Newton, of Drayman’s Arms, in the final of their group at the Consti Club.

The Division B title will be contested by Brendan Clark, of Green Dragon Z, who progressed from his group at Kirton Leisure after beating Ashley Brown, of Leisure.

The Royal Mail Cart venue produced a family showdown, with John and Jonny Robinson, of Consti Club D meeting in their group final. It was the senior figure, John, who claimed the win.

At the Services Club, Callum Day, of Green Dragon Z, secured his place by overcoming Mark Jones of Services Club A.

The last spot went to Josh Burton, of Pinchbeck FC C, who beat John Harris, of Consti Club Z, in their group played at the Drayman’s Arms.

Singles qualifiers – Division A: Ben Connell, Scott Lawrence, Connor MacKenzie, Sam Roberts.
Division B: Brendon Clark, John Robinson, Callum Day, Josh Burton.

☐ The Spalding League’s triples competition is a real leveller with all six players throwing in the same leg, best of three from 701.

Some teams handled the format well and the Division One champions were from Rose and Crown A with captain Hank Watson, Gary Mace and young Finlay Clayton triumphant. They beat Rose and Crown C’s Logan and Olivia Goddard and Ant Richardson 2-1 in the final.

Clayton is showing what a player he will be and is unbeaten all season. In the final he sat on 114 and checked out to win the game.

In Division Two Pinchbeck FC A beat Holbeach Services A 2-0 in the final. The winning team was Andy Mason, Will Cliff and John McKenzie, who beat Chris Blakey, Mick Ocock and Tom Fensom.

Pinchbeck caused an upset earlier in the night, beating their counterparts who were favoured to win the night.

It was an all-Pinchbeck final in Division Three, with Gary Coomes, Ash Brown and Finley Andrews beating Graham Amess, Rydan Dobney and Mckenzie Foster 2-1.

The amount of young talent that is coming through the area shows the future is bright.

A rearranged game was played, which saw Riverside B edge out Pinchbeck FC B 5-4. Chris Taylor won the vital game, while Darren Norton and Jordan Philpott hit maximum 180s.
