Weston’s village pub set to stay open

The Chequers pub in Weston is to remain open until at least the end of the year.

Owner Robert Oldershaw contacted The Voice to say a previous report that it was closing (August 24) was not completely correct.

Mr Oldershaw said the pub is keeping the same staff and for the immediate future is not closing.

A blog post on the pub’s website reads: “The future of the Chequers is currently undecided and although there is uncertainty around our future in 2018, we are still still taking reservations until Christmas.”

The pub was bought in 2014 by Mr Oldershaw and business partner John Grimwood, both of the Oldershaw Group.

Mr Grimwood had refused to comment on reports that the pub may be closing

There has been a pub on the site in the village for 150 years and that now looks set to continue for the time being.
