Plans ahoy for Spalding raft race to launch next year?

Spalding may be in line for its own annual raft racing event if plans come to fruition.

The idea is taking shape and it is hoped individuals, groups and companies will come forward to help make it a success.

Resident Mark Le Sage, who had the idea, said the project was one step closer to becoming reality after he had a meeting with South Holland District Council member Harry Drury.

Mr Drury said: “I have recently purchased a kayak and have been paddling up and down the beautiful and picturesque River Welland and Coronation Channel, thinking that we as a town really do not utilise this natural resource enough.

“Two weeks later, I received a phone call from Mark with the fantastic idea of a Raft Race on the River Welland, bringing the town and district together to enjoy a fun day on the river.

“This is a perfect opportunity for community groups, sports groups, businesses and residents to come together on Spalding’s oldest and most historic leisure spot to have a fun day out,” Mr Drury added.

Although in the early stages of planning, if anyone would like to take part should it go ahead, email Coun Drury at [email protected]
