Ward to the fore to secure progress

JJ Ward continued his scoring form to put Pinchbeck United through to the next round of the Lincolnshire CFA Trophy.

His goal earned them a 1-1 draw at United Counties League Premier Division strugglers Deeping Rangers and he was then one of the visitors’ scorers in the 4-2 penalty shoot-out decider.
Taylor Jaine, Joe Melson, and Logan Tate were also successful with a miss and a save from Ben Martin securing progress.
That came after the Knights had got back to winning ways in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League with a 4-1 success at home to Holland.
It followed a run of three defeats and came after Ward struck twice in the first half.
The away side pulled one back with 15 minutes to go but their hopes of scrambling an unlikely draw were quashed with further goals from Jaine and Flynn Slater.
A fine defensive display from Jaine, on top of his goal, earned him the man of the match award.
The Knights gave a debut to Josh Balding, following his arrival on a dual registration from United Counties League side Wisbech Town.
Knights v Holland: Martin, Jaine, Balding, Melson, Brooks, A Wallace, Stevens (H Wallace), Kacirek (Vieira), Slater, Cullen (Panton), Ward.
Attendance: 52.

Knights v Deeping: Martin, Jaine, Howlett, Melson, Cranfield, A Wallace, Stevens, Kacirek, Slater, Cullen, Ward. Subs: Vieira, Tate, Fieldhouse, H Wallace.
