Wait is worth it for Newton as he lifts first singles title in 24 years

Lincoln Arms won the first trophy of the Spalding and District Darts League Finals Night with a comfortable win in the Kelly Foster Cup.
Singles successes for Steve Stancer, Karl Rolfe, Luke Rhodes and Ted Howling were enough to seal victory against Consti E.
The next trophy was won by Division Two league winners Oscar’s Bar, who beat Rose and Crown 5-3 to complete a double, thanks to wins from Phil Newton, Andy Taylor, Lee Purvis and Jonny Pell.
There was a shock in the Supreme Cup final where previously unbeaten Tigers A lost 5-4 to Tigers C. Tigers C won two of the three pairs with singles wins for Simon Hill and Duncan Hunt. A last game win for Ben Neal against Dan Carnell decided things.
The triples crown went to the Division One teaming of Hunt, Hill and Mark Horspool, who won 2-0 against Phil, Kev and Rick Newton.
The ladies singles went to Cambridgeshire County A’s Casey Hill 2-1 in a hard-fought game against Nicky Hunt.
Tigers A took another trophy with Duggie McInerney and England player Claire Brookin winning 2-0 against John Charlton and Sharon Barnard.
Experience won through in the Captains Cup as Draymans Arms’ John Charlton won 2-0 against Jake Merrill, of Lincoln Arms.
The Division One Pairs title went to Tigers A’s Gary Mace and McInerney.
They beat Tigers C’s Horspool and Ant Richardson.
In the Division Two Pairs, the Consti B pairing of Paul Faulkner and Dean Chapman won 2-1 against Hank Watson and Jason Hammond.
The Division Two singles was won by Phil Newton, 3-2 against Zac Chapman. Newton enjoyed the night as it was the first singles title he had won in 24 years of playing.
Cambridgeshire A and England player Brookin beat Craig Twell 3-2 to win the Division One Singles title.
The new season starts next week with the league growing from 14 teams to 16.
