Volunteers pledge to help the vulnerable during coronavirus

An action group has formed to help vulnerable people in South Holland during the coronavirus situation.

A group of volunteers has pledged to help people in the area most vulnerable to the virus by delivering shopping to their home to save them mixing with those potentially infected with COVID-19.

Long Sutton woman Hayley Gedney, who runs two Diabetes UK groups in the area, put out a pledge online at the weekend offering help with the new service and was contacted by others wanting to volunteer.

“I’ve have had volunteers in Moulton, Holbeach and Spalding all offering to assist me in this quest,” she said.

The next step is to let those who need help know it’s available, Hayley added.

“I really hope that we can help those in need, and we are all happy to do it voluntarily just for the cost of the shopping.

“Obviously we know we are soon going to face shortages within our supermarkets of certain items, so we don’t want to start a panic buying frenzy, however we do want people to know that they can call someone should they need assistance with their weekly essentials.”
