Volunteers group is set to launch

A new group of volunteers that aims to help others in eastern parts of South Holland is to go live in October.

The East Elloe Good Neighbour Scheme will be offering to do tasks for those who might be unable to do them.

They’ve been busy planning for the launch via a host of online networking sessions. And they’re set to be open for business by October.

The group’s Frank Heinrich-Tiller said: “Our volunteers are preparing to provide help to residents living in Long Sutton, Sutton Bridge, Holbeach and surrounding areas.

“We aim to enhance the quality of life for our residents by helping them with all sorts of tasks such as providing companionship, form filling, letter writing, shopping, fetching prescriptions, changing library books, dog walking, light gardening and watering plants on a short-term basis when needed.

“East Elloe Good Neighbour Scheme working group has been meeting regularly during lockdown via Zoom meetings to put in place all the required administration.

“We now have a constitution, committee and working documents and policies based on guidance and resources from Community Lincs (part of YMCA) Good Neighbour Schemes.”

The group is holding two meetings for those interested in volunteering for the scheme. They’re at St Mary’s Parish Church, Long Sutton, on Thursday September 3, with the first at 2pm and the second at 7pm.

Anyone aged 18 and over is welcome to attend.

Frank continued: “We will be setting out how the scheme will evolve and seeking support from as many volunteers as possible.

“It will also provide an opportunity to meet the organisers face-to-face and ask any questions you may have about volunteering for the scheme. We look forward to meeting volunteers who are keen to support the elderly, disabled, vulnerable, frail, lonely and those living alone and wish to enhance the quality of life for residents.

“We are also looking for additional people with the appropriate skills to support the scheme management by joining the committee.”
