Village school is ‘Good’ all round

A South Holland school at the heart of its community has been awarded Good across the board in a recent Ofsted report.

Surfleet Primary School supports its pupils to work hard, be kind and achieve.
“This school has developed an ambitious curriculum that every pupil studies. The curriculum is constructed with consideration for the mixed-age classes,” said the report published this week.
The school, on Station Road, has 70 children on the roll aged from four to 11 years old.
The report says pupils with special educational and/or special needs (SEND) get the support they need to be involved in ‘all the school has to offer.’
The inspector highlighted the inclusiveness at Surfleet and said the overwhelming majority of parents and carers would recommend it.
“Children start to learn to read as soon as they start in Reception Year. Staff are experts in the teaching of early reading,” the report says.
The classes of mixed-age children get to grips with routines to help them learn. Children benefit from some of the input that older pupils get, the report adds.
A member of the Keystone Academy Trust, the school’s headteacher is Rick Chipperfield and the staff enjoy working at the school, says the report.
“The school is calm and orderly. There are strong relationships between pupils and staff.”
The inspector awarded a ‘good’ status in all five key areas of quality, behaviour, personal development, leadership and early years provision.
The inspectors highlighted the pupils’ enjoyment at the school ‘which sits in the heart of its community.’
