Tydd Gote Angling Club pay tribute to late Mick with popular Memorial Match

More than 30 competitors took part as Tydd Gote Angling Club hosted their Mick Asker Memorial match at Main Road.

The meet was a way for members, family and friends to pay their respects to Mick, who was a regular angler at the club and on the open match scene, but sadly lost his battle with cancer earlier this year.

The match was a ‘random pairs‘ drawn on the day with Kim Asker presenting the trophy to the winning pair.

Jez Rockett and Dave Williams were top pair on the day with a combined total of 14lb 10oz largely made up of Jez’s tench and bream based weight of 10lb 14oz that also gave him the individual title.

There was a joint tie for second, with Andy Lawrence and Dennis Houghton and Pete Emery and Sammy McSpadden level on 13lb 9oz.

Andy Lawrence also took runner’s up spot individually with two tench and some silvers for 9lb 9oz with Pete Emery third on 7lb and John Bates fourth with 6lb 14oz.

Wednesday Open: 1st Bob Bates 11lb 5oz; 2nd Andy Toogood 9lb 3oz; 3rd Pete Emery 8lb 9oz.

  • Roger Smith was the winner of Holbeach and District Angling Club’s latest match at the Holland Lodge section.

From peg four, his catch of 2lb 14.5oz was enough to claim overall glory.
Second place went to Andy Wilson, who was just off the pace with a net of 2lb 5.5oz.
