Two wins set Tulips up for Boldemere

Two big wins for Spalding United have set the Tulips up nicely with a big game with Boldemere St Michaels this Saturday.
Brett Whaley’s side are third after the unbeaten start continued with a 2-0 win at Harborough Town on Saturday followed by a dramatic 3-2 win over Chasetown on Tuesday night.
Fourth place Boldemere make the trip to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field in the most eye-catching Pitching In Northern Premier League Midland Division fixture of the weekend.
On Saturday Spalding bounced back from the disappointing 2-2 draw with Bedworth to beat Harborough 2-0 thanks to a Bradley Rolt double.
He bundled home after Nathan Stainfield headed a corner back across goal in the 14th minute to give the Tulips the advantage in an even first half where the home side also had their chances and hit the post from a free kick.
Spalding came under some pressure in the second period but defended well before sealing the win in the 90th minute by capping a fine Tulips move.
They also showed plenty of character on Tuesday night to beat Chasetown 3-2 after twice being pulled back.
The catalyst was Josh Moreman whose mazy run led to the foul in the area that Archie Jones slotted home for a 36th minute lead.
A slow start to the second period saw Jack Langston equalise for Chasetown straight after the break.
The lead was restored on 64 minutes when Moreman was involved again setting up James Clifton whose cross-cum-shot dropped into the net.
Once again, Spalding were caught napping and allowed Chasetown to equalise, Langston just three minutes later being given too much time to run through and score.
Joey Butlin nearly made it 3-2 to the visitors within moments but the Tulips hit straight back though, Moreman again the provider as he squared for Elliot Sandy to make it 3-2.
Chasetown put the pressure on in the final 20 minutes but Spalding worked hard to earn themselves the points and continue the impressive run.
It’s no defeat in 14 games with the Tulips four points behind leaders Halesowen and three behind second placed Stamford.
Spalding are themselves a point ahead of Boldemere ahead of the meeting of the two sides on Saturday.
