Two hours of nun fun with Sister Act stage show in Spalding

Spalding theatre group Act II will perform the stage version of Sister Act at the South Holland Centre.

Director Karl Gernert describes the show as “two hours of unashamed fun” and he says the music by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors/Disney’s Beauty and The Beast) is “outstanding.”

“They take the best bits of the film and add a great soundtrack to it,” said Karl.

The three-night run is fortuitious for two reasons.

“It was the right show at the right time,” said Karl. “This particular musical theatre group performing it is girl heavy and girl heavy musical theatre shows are sometimes few and far between. But this one is all nuns so that really works.”

“There was a narrow window of availability, we were lucky to nab it as a national tour is about to head out again.”

The national show will star Alexandra Burke.

With equal star power is Act II’s Ashleigh Mills, who takes the lead role of Dolores, made famous by Whoopi Goldberg in the award-winning 1992 movie.

Ashleigh is an Act II veteran. “She’s been with us since she was eight years old,” says Karl.

Sister Act is at 7.30pm on from Wednesday, September 20 to Saturday, September 23.

Also on Saturday is a relaxed performance at 2.30pm.

Tickets are available from the South Holland Centre box office and website for £9.50/£8.00 concessions.
