Tulips and Tigers off to winning starts

VOICE football

Both Spalding United and Holbeach United made winning starts to their pre-season campaigns on Saturday.

Goals from Andrew Tidswell and Nathan Stainfield earned the Tulips a 2-0 triumph at Peterborough Sports, while Danny Spencer (2), Ash Fuller and Ollie Pinner netted for the Tigers in a 4-0 home victory against Louth Town.

Both of Spalding’s goals came in the second half at UCL Division One outfit PSL, with an injury-free Tidswell notching with a low drive and Stainfield heading home from a corner.

Holbeach, meanwhile, needed just two minutes to open the scoring at Carter’s Park as Spencer nodded home a Gary King corner at the back post.

Winger Fuller made it 2-0 with a low left-footed drive into the near post following a slick break (19), before Spencer grabbed his second on 43 minutes after Adam Jackson’s drive was parried.

The second-half was a little more low key, but a fine finish from a Pinner at the death rounded off a good day at the office for the Tigers.

The only worry for co-bosses John Chand and Graham Drury were injuries to Tommy Treacher and Jack Smith.
