Tulips boss demanding a response in crunch clash

Spalding United boss Dave Frecklington is demanding a response from his players in tomorrow’s table-topping tussle with Newcastle Town.

The second-placed Tulips play host to a Staffordshire side who are level on points with Spalding having played the same amount of EvoStik Division One South games.

And, after seeing his side fall to a second successive home defeat against AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Tuesday night, Frecklington wants a quick return to winning ways.

He said: “It will be a chance to see what we are all about.

“I’m disappointed that we’ve lost our last two home games because I want to have a good home record.

“We are not going to win the league if we don’t win our home games.

“I am expecting a response after losing on Tuesday night because we need to start taking points against the teams around us.

“We are beating the teams in the bottom half, but so far we’ve fallen short at home against the likes of Leek and Rushden.”

Danny Durkin has ended his brief spell with the Tulips after rejoining Grantham Town.

Holbeach United also have a home match as they entertain Kirby Muxloe in the United Counties League Premier Division.

The Tigers go into the Carter’s Park clash after conceding an injury-time penalty in Wedenesday night’s 1-1 home derby draw with Deeping Rangers.

Scott Mooney was bundled over in the area by Josh Ford in the second minute of added time and Scott Coupland held his nerve convert from the spot.

The Tigers had made the initial breakthrough after 12 minutes when Adam Jackson’s long throw was cleared back to him and he played the ball in to Tyler Wright whose perfectly placed centre was glanced in by Jake Clitheroe.

Tomorrow’s visitors Kirby are third-from-bottom in the table and have won just one of their seven away matches so far this season.
