In-form Pinchbeck can continue climb

In-form Pinchbeck United will be aiming to continue their climb up the Peterborough League Premier Division table by extending their winning sequence into double figures this weekend.

Ian Dunn’s side have won their last nine league and cup matches during a run that has seen them move within five points of table-topping Netherton with a game in hand.

They travel to face AFC Stanground Sports on Saturday knowing a victory will see them leapfrog their hosts into fourth place.

The free-scoring Peterborough side will provide a stern test to Pinchbeck’s winning streak which has yielded 21 goals with just four against.

Enigmatic former Spalding United and Holbeach striker Jamie Graham has recently joined a Stanground side who play on the 3G surface at Yaxley’s In2itive Park.

Player-boss Dunn commented: “It will give us the chance to play some good football on a really nice pitch so I’m looking forward to it.

“They have got some tidy footballers. They score a lot of goals, but also concede quite a few.

“They’ve only played Moulton and Netherton out of the top five so far and have lost both games.

“Hopefully we can defend well, create plenty of chances and score goals.”

Pinchbeck go into Saturday’s clash having beaten lowly Uppingham Town 3-1 at Knight Street on Saturday.

The visitors came with a game-plan to defend in numbers as Dunn rotated several players in his squad.

Nick Bishop and Chris Shipley both played 45 minutes each while Jamie Francis was handed his first start of the season.

Luke Gardner was rested with a slight knock as Pinchbeck’s patience paid off against their resolute visitors.

Dunn added: “I made a few changes which might have had an effect on the game as we weren’t as good as we should have been in the first half.

“But we need to be using everyone in the squad and it keeps all the players on their toes.”
