Tulips are last English side to be unbeaten

Gresley Rovers 0
Spalding United 2

Spalding United are now the only undefeated team in England’s top eight divisions after a battling 2-0 victory at Gresley Rovers on Saturday.
Two second-half strikes from James Clifton (50 & 87) got the job done for Brett Whaley’s side at Moat Street, making it 11 wins and six draws from their 17 league games so far.
The result moves them above Halesowen Town and up to second in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division standings, some five points behind leaders Stamford with a game in hand.
But the accolade of being England’s last unbeaten side, earned after Truro’s defeat at the weekend, gives Spalding great momentum and confidence ahead of their crucial December fixtures.
Spalding were much the better side from the off and went close when Dylan Edge met a Clifton delivery, but was unable to turn it home.
That was the best chance of the half, with both sides looking physical but unable to forge clear openings.
The breakthrough came four minutes into the second half, however, as a corner from Lewis Hilliard was headed home powerfully by Clifton.
Speedy striker Josh Moreman then blasted an effort just past the upright as the Tulips searched for a second.
The points were clinched by the man Clifton, though, as he met another set-piece – this time delivered by sub Stefan Broccoli – to grab his second three minutes from time.
There was enough time left for more action, however, with hosts Gresley seeing Michael Williams sent off for a second yellow card in added time.
Spalding defend their unbeaten record at 12th-placed Sutton Coldfield Town this Saturday (3pm).
Tulips: Duggan, Hart, Bucciero, Barker, Stainfield, Cartwright, L Hilliard, Clifton (Jones 87), Sandy (T Hilliard 75), Edge, Moreman (Broccoli 68). Not used: Draper, Rolt.
Attendance: 264.
