Tulips and Tigers safely through after superb away wins in FA Cup

Both Spalding United and Holbeach United kept their FA Cup runs going on Saturday with impressive victories on the road.

Holbeach earned a fine 1-0 derby win at UCL Premier Division rivals Wisbech Town, while Spalding came from behind to see off hosts Radford 2-1.

Starting with the Tigers, Gary King’s 62nd-minute effort was the least they deserved as they earned only their second-ever FA Cup triumph over the Fenmen.

They will now host Stourport Swifts in the first qualifying round after they defeated Alvechurch 1-0.

Meanwhile, a second-half double from Tom Waumlsey booked the Tulips a tricky-looking date with Nantwich Town in the next round.

Pat Rayment’s side were 1-0 down at the break, but Waumsley’s quick-fire brace eased them into the next stage.

Those ties will be played on September 12.

Both Spalding and Holbeach are in midweek action, with the Tulips visiting Gresley on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm) and the Tigers travelling to Boston Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Elsewhere, four South Holland sides enjoyed cup success in the ChromaSport Peterborough League.

Pinchbeck roared to an 8-1 home win over Riverside in the President Premier Shield, as Ian Dunn’s side put their recent poor league form behind them.

In the Chairman Championship Shield, Sutton Bridge United earned a crushing 13-1 success at Langtoft Reserves, while Long Sutton Athletic thrashed hosts Kings Cliffe 4-0.

Spalding United Reserves also progressed in the latter competition, winning 2-1 at Stamford Lions after extra time.
