Tulip Talk: Time for a catch up with Gary

Recently we had the opportunity of speaking to Coun Gary Taylor who has been representing Spalding Castle for 12 years and we talked of his local work as well as his portfolios.

On the last occasion he visited us, he declared his intention to keep up pressure on large business and utility companies to maintain their properties in the Spalding area. To this end he filled us in with progress in respect of the Chatterton water tower in Holland Market.

Despite Anglian Water being a hugely profitable company, they had contacted Gary to tell him that they had scheduled the refresh of this landmark building in around five years time.

We all agreed that they really ought to readdress this time frame as in many people’s opinion, this water tower was becoming increasingly scruffy and left the wrong impression of Spalding in many visitors’ eyes.

Gary reaffirmed his intention to maintain pressure on the company to provide a clean, repainted water tower much sooner rather than later.

We also talked of the difficulties being encountered by locals attempting to use the Winsover Road rail crossing during the current round of engineering works, especially at weekends. He felt that now the signal box had been demolished, there was now a very real case for Network Rail to seriously consider a pedestrian footbridge across the railway and he looked forward to dialogue between council leader Gary Porter and the rail company to persuade them to deliver.

We enjoyed our time with Gary who is plainly very keen to see Spalding presented in as good a light as possible for our numerous visitors and is one of those people who is happy to get his hands dirty to achieve that goal.
