TULIP TALK: Parade was a triumph

Friday saw The Pumpkin Festival return to Spalding Market place in triumphant fashion. The event attracted a large number of people between 11am and 7.30pm, culminating in a fireworks display. The event was sponsored once again by David Bowman Pumpkins Ltd.
The all-day festival took place across Spalding’s Sheep Market, with the evening entertainment in the main market place. Visitors were able to try their hand at pumpkin carving under the watchful eye of local experts Angela and Jonathan Nicholls, of Farm House Chicken Crafts.
As well as carving the real thing, festival-goers were able to create their own pumpkin themed artwork to carry in the parade with the aid of craft workshops by Creation Station and Transported Arts.
Stalls were erected to create the Festival’s Market, visitors were able to purchase a selection of pumpkin themed treats. Those attending the festival were treated to a great selection of cooking demonstrations, a near endless list of exciting ways to cook, with pumpkins being the main focus. Special mention must go to those who entered the fancy-dress competition, all the costumes looking wonderful, a lot of effort went into it this year and every single entrant gave it their all.
The onstage entertainment was this year provided by an eclectic mix of groups; Diamondz DG amazed crowds with their spectacular dance moves. The Bourne Borderers gave the audience something different with their impressive Morris dancing, Peter J sang his heart out and to finish there was local band Zebra.
The festival was closed in glorious fashion, with a firework display. We were lucky enough to have the sun shining throughout the whole day.
