Tributes paid to ‘Mr Pinchbeck’

Tributes have been paid to a Pinchbeck man who has been a mainstay of the village for several decades.

Chris Schofield died recently aged 82.
He was chairman of Pinchbeck Carnival for 20 years, only stepping down last year, and was also the chairman of Pinchbeck Village Hall.
The latter released a statement saying: “Everyone knows Chris for flashing his knobbly knees to the world whilst driving his beloved tractor, he will be sorely missed. Goodbye Mr Pinchbeck.”
Chris had also run the Pinchbeck Youth Club in the 1980s, set up the village’s Kids’ Club and also a book stall outside his house that became a social gathering.
Just last month he was the runner up in the Community Hero category at the Pride of South Holland Awards.
Coun Andrew Woolf said at the ceremony: “He’s done everything for the community and village of Pinchbeck I can think of.”
Jane Amess was on the committee of the Pinchbeck Carnival.
“He was called Mr Pinchbeck for a very good reason,” she said. “He loved the Pinchbeck community and was a driving force behind many things that went on in the village.
“Chris will be sadly missed by so many and we will never find anyone who was so passionate about Pinchbeck.”
Friend Jan Whitbourn said: “Chris was a kind hearted and hard working man that you would see everywhere and at the meetings he would always be vocal to make sure we delivered the best for everyone and the safety was uppermost in his head always.
“He will be sorely missed as he meant so much to so many people due to the voluntary work he took on, but he was always a great laugh.
“He was always thinking of others and never about himself going the extra mile.”
