Tigers give Crowland helping hand

Crowland Town took a giant step towards claiming the GCE Hire Fleet Peterborough League title with a 3-1 victory at second-placed Stanground Cardea Sports.

With leaders Uppingham Town not playing, the win pulled third-placed Crowland to within seven points of top spot, but with five games in hand.
They did all the hard work in the first half, opening a three-goal lead thanks to a brace from Harry Tidswell and a goal from Jordan Kirchin.
After winning just one of their opening five games, Crowland have rattled off 13 wins on the spin to race up the standings.
After the match, they learned their position was even stronger thanks to bottom club Holbeach Reserves upsetting fourth-placed FC Peterborough Reserves with a 3-2 win, while their other title rivals Warboys Town were held to a goalless draw.
Three games without defeat has seen the Tigers’ second-string raise their hopes of avoiding the Premier Division’s wooden spoon. In a battling display, they hit back from 2-0 down, thanks to goals from Denis Coelho and substitutes Flynn Hyde and Ty Buffong.
A pair of goals from Adam Richardson and Ryan Ellwood’s single strike kept Whaplode Drove Rovers in the race for promotion from Division One. They won 3-0 at Yaxley Reserves.
Not such a good day for Long Sutton Athletic, they lost 6-1 at Park Farm Pumas. Jack Baker got the visitors’ consolation after they had trailed only 1-0 at half-time.
