Pinchbeck and Holbeach fail to hit goal trail

A battling second-half performance was not enough for Pinchbeck United to slow Haverhill Rovers’ charge towards the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North title.

Two second-half goals gave the Suffolk side all three points in front of a 200-plus crowd to leave them needing just six more points from their remaining six games to tie up the silverware.
The Knights played some neat football and often looked more comfortable in possession than their hosts but two flashes of brilliance after 20 and 42 minutes earned Haverhill a 2-0 victory.

play-off chasers Diss Town on Saturday.
Knights: Martin, Stevens, Doran (Gagyi), Melson, Cranfield, Brooks, Howlett, Ratley (Thorrold), Slater, Cullen, Ward.
Attendance: 209.
* A shoddy first-half display left Holbeach United on the back foot as visitors Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers took all the points from Carter’s Park on Saturday.
A 30th-minute strike from the Norwich side proved enough to claim a 1-0 victory, despite the ten-man Tigers showing a lot of fight, desire and spirit in the second half. Ben Greenacre was sent off for the Tigers.
It leaves the team nine points adrift of the last play-off spot but with five of their remaining seven games away from home, starting at promotion rivals Gorleston Reserves on Saturday.
Tigers: Simpson, Greenacre, Oldham, Roberts, Ling, Carter, Kacirek, Thorne, Wright, Compton, Cook. Subs: Sablowski, Ibeneme, Lee, Bassendine-Matthews, Williams.
Attendance: 86.
