Three losses on the bounce for Spalding United as Daventry battle back

Pat Rayment experienced a first in his near four-year reign as Spalding United boss on Saturday as he saw his side beaten for the third game on the trot.

Daventry Town handed the Tulips a 2-1 Evo-Stik League First Division South defeat at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, despite a goal from Jamie Graham on his full debut.

The striker put the Tulips ahead on 42 minutes – and they almost doubled their lead on the hour when Nathan Stainfield’s header came back off the bar.

It all began to go wrong on 72 minutes, when sub Kieran Fitzgerald levelled for Daventry with a header from Joe Curtis’ corner.

Nabil Shariff then fired the visitors ahead three minutes from time, leaving the Tulips down in 12th place.

They will hope to end that run when they welcome Newcastle Town to the Sir Halley next Saturday (3pm).

Meanwhile, Holbeach United came from behind to win 3-1 against Desborough Town  in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division thanks to goals from Josh Ford (2) and Nick Jackson. Read the full report here.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, South Holland trio Moulton Harrox, Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United Reserves all progressed in the PFA Senior Cup.

Harrox won 4-2 at Sawtry, while Pinchbeck needed penalties to see off hosts AFC Stanground after a 2-2 draw. Ian Dunn’s side won the shoot-out  5-4.

Holbeach Reserves also progressed on penalties as they drew 3-3 at title-chasing Peterborough Sports Reserves. Omar Joof’s side won 4-2 on spot-kicks.
