Goals from Jake Farrell, Matt Rose and Edgaras Buzas gave Spalding United Reserves a much-deserved victory as they booked their place in the semi-finals of the PFA Challenge Cup with a 3-0 victory over Oundle Town.
After their barren run of recent weeks, this was the performance Kev Nottingham’s side have been threatening as of late.
Right from the kick off, Spalding took the game to Oundle. Farrell whipped in a flurry of excellent corners which caused the away sides all kinds of problems but the hosts couldn’t convert.
Daniel Klos was also denied when he had a one-on-one chance, while Rose saw a half-volley saved too.
The breakthrough came when Dave Endersbee brought the ball out from the back and picked out Farrell, who escaped his marker and fired home at the second attempt.
After the break Spalding’s Ashley Elderkin had to be alert as he produced an acrobatic save – which seemed to wake the hosts up. It was soon 2-0, with Danny Nichols and Buzas combining down the left before the latter pulled the ball back for Rose to lash a screamer into the top corner.
Buzas was a menace throughout – and his hard work was rewarded when he scored the third. Endersbee, with his second assist, played a through ball into his run and Buzas finished with an effort that went through the keeper.
Spalding’s effort and game management was outstanding, with Josh McGuire and Ben Holland both putting in fantastic performances.
Spalding Reserves: Elderkin, McGuire, Braybrook (Chilvers), Endersbee, Nichols, Holland, Buzas, Rose, Klos (Wycherley), Farrell (Newton), Berkin (Cannon).
