Thorne’s too hot to handle

Holbeach United bounced back from the previous week’s heavy defeat at Harwich with a 2-1 win in Ipswich against Whitton United in the Thurlow Nunn League on Saturday.

Harvey Thorne’s 41st-minute free-kick proved too hot for the home goalkeeper to handle and he dropped the ball, allowing Oskar Gadzia to nip in and score.
It was 2-0 on the hour-mark when Ben Greenacre’s deep cross from the touchline found Marley Hamilton and he took one touch to control before rifling the ball home.
A third on-target effort was ruled out for offside before the hosts pulled one back in the last five minutes.
Saturday brings a tricky match at relegation-battling Haverhill Borough before the Tigers draw the curtain on their season at home to neighbours Pinchbeck United.
Tigers: Simpson, Kacirek, Cook, Greenacre, Oldham, Carter (Roberts), Compton, Thorne, Hamilton, Wright, Gadzia (Ling). Subs: Ibeneme, Szablowski.
