Theresa Starbuck succeeded the departing Hannah Thorold as Spalding Golf Club ladies’ captain at their annual general meeting last week.
Lainey Macleman was also made vice-captain to assist the new skipper.
All other officers remain the same, with two new committee members elected.
Overall, the ladies team had a successful year – with the A team finishing second in their league and the B winning theirs. There was also a high proportion of wins of the friendly matches.
Spalding also raised over £2,000 for Thorold’s designated charity, Macmillan Cancer Care. Following the AGM there was a presentation of prizes for the season.
- The first round of the ladies’ Groom Shield was played and attracted an entry of 31. The winner of this bogey competition was Elaine Hancock (+3), Jenny Van Gemeren (+1) second Sue Matthews (evens) third.
The first 20 ladies qualified for round two, which was won by Sally West with +2 (and a handicap cut of one shot).
Second place went to Jean White (+1) ahead of Paula Brown (evens) in third. Round three will be played on October 25.
- Some 29 ladies entered for a non-qualifying 16-hole stableford – with two holes out of action due to the bunker replacement work at the Surfleet course.
The winner was Angela Roper with 34 points, while Jackie Bailey Scott (33pts) and Jean White (31pts) were second and third respectively.
