After conceding ten goals in two defeats in their previous games, Holbeach United fought back impressively on Saturday to win 2-1 at Diss Town.
Goals from Patrick Kacirek and Denis Coelho earned a second three points of the season in the Thurlow Nunn Division One North.
Most pleasingly for the Tigers’ management was the defence looking more secure after conceding five for the second game in a row against Netherton United the previous Wednesday in the League Cup.
Kacirek also netted in that match alongside Rabab Ali with Holbeach having carved out numerous chances in an entertaining game, but proving leaky at the back.
On Saturday though the Tigers controlled things after taking a second minute lead, Kacirek’s powerful header at the near post from a Tom Hoyle header giving the visitors the advantage.
Holbeach got the second just before the hour when Mohamed Syed Ahamed raced on to a flick on and fed Abdul-Hamid Chouchane.
He beat the defender to the ball and, despite a heavy touch, was able to work the ball to Coelho to calmly pick his spot for 2-0.
The Tigers’ defence was tested, especially after a finish by Kyle Cushing-Meehan halved the deficit with four minutes remaining.
But Holbeach saw it out to make it two wins out of three so far in the league this season.
The Tigers were due to be back at Carter’s Park on Wednesday (August 12) as The Voice went to press.
