The Wright stuff fires both Long Sutton teams

It was a frustrating weekend for Long Sutton as they left Boston 2nd 158 all out in the South Lincolnshire and Border League Premier Division but were denied the chance to claim a first win of the season by the weather.

Sutton put the visitors to Paradise Field in and worked hard to restrict them starting with Barry Stanway (1-14) bowling opener William Tether for a duck before suffering an injury.

Plenty of Boston batsmen made starts, but the attack led excellently by Adam Wright kept them and the score in check.

Wright took 5-45 in 11.1 overs backed by Jake Burton (3-37) and William Naylor (1-35).

Boston were 158 all out in the 39th over and Sutton would have fancied their chances of knocking off that total, but the weather ensured they didn’t even begin the chase.

For the fourth successive match this season, the weather meant no result was possible.

A stunning 126 from James Wright helped Long Sutton 2nd to a brilliant win over Billingborough 2nd in South Lincolnshire and Border League Division Town.

Opener Wright hit 17 fours and four sixes in his match wining knock that provided the basis for Sutton’s 263 for 4 in just 40 overs.

Among those who backed James in his exploits were fellow opener Andrew Wright (37), Jeremy Smith (27) and James Cole (44).

James Wright’s innings was only ended late on when he was caught and bowled by Bill Sadler (1-47).

Billingborough were then swiftly disposed of in just 26 overs, with Ed Munson playing a huge role in the swift victory.

Munson took 6-49 in his 10 overs, including the top five Billingborough batsman.

Four of his wickets were bowled while two others were caught behind by the safe hands of keeper Tom Shaw as the bowler proved too good for the opposition.

Andy Shaw claimed 2-43 from his 10 overs himself while both Beth (0-9) and Craig Milnes (0-11) bowled well.

It was Beth whose quick work ensured the final wicket to fall was a run out to confirm Billinborough as 122 all out and confirm a 141 run victory. It’s early days, but the first full victory of the season for Long Sutton 2nd lifts them up to third in the table.
