Pinchbeck open the season with cup defeat

After weeks of being rained off, Pinchbeck opened their season with a heavy defeat to Graves Park in the South Lincolnshire and Border League Cup on Saturday.

Division One side Graves took a shine to their lower league opponents’ bowling and smashed a huge 362 for 5 from their 40 overs.

Opener Chris King led from the off with his knock of 137.

All of the Graves batsmen enjoyed some success including Jack Ashton (63).

Mike Knight took 2-74 with Nick Crook (1-53), Steffan Makorkij (1-55) and Danny Jackson (1-70) among the wickets.

The Pinchbeck reply had an excellent start as openers Matt Kidd (28) and Mick Crook (37) provided some foundations.

However a clutter of wickets left Pinchbeck at 78 for 5 at the drinks stage.

With the rain coming down heavier and heavier, and no realistic chance of a cup upset on the cards, as well as no league points on offer, Pinchbeck declared and conceded a 284 run victory to Graves.

Danny Jackson’s side will hop to get their league campaign started at Belton Park 2nd this weekend.
