The Voice says: How much longer must we suffer this dangerous eyesore?

A rundown site blighting Spalding town centre is now dangerous too.

Old sorting office, The Crescent, SpaldingSome of the boards covering windows at the former Royal Mail sorting office in The Crescent are no longer in place, exposing jagged, smashed sheets of glass at head height.

Now The Voice is demanding remedial action be taken before somebody is seriously hurt. However, the owner of the site remains unclear.

Spalding firm Fen Properties Ltd sold it on after planning permission for demolition of the property and building of 12 flats was granted in February 2012. Company director Andrew Keeling told The Voice he was unable to say who the current owner is.

Spalding town centre manager Dennis Hannant said: “In my personal opinion, it should be flattened and have flats or a retail unit on there. It’s a prime town centre site and needs to be developed.”

In November 2014, the site was on a South Holland District Council list of eyesore properties it wanted to see tidied up as part of its Pride in South Holland campaign.
