The fourth is with Pinchbeck United despite disappointing Oadby loss

Pinchbeck United clinched a fine fourth-placed finish in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division despite suffering a 2-1 home reverse against Oadby Town on Saturday.

A Tony Edwards goal (22) did put the Knights ahead at the Sir Halley, but Oadby hit back twice (43 and 57) to ensure that Pinchbeck’s final league game of the season ended in defeat.

Ian Dunn’s side did have two goals disallowed for offside, with Edwards and Alex Beck the unlucky parties.

Player/boss Dunn, who fielded a weakened side with Wednesday night’s Hinchingbrooke Cup final against Godmanchester Rovers in mind , felt his side were unlucky on the day.

He said: “We obviously made a few changes with the final in mind, which was the only decision really.

“I said beforehand that we’d prioritise the final and we followed that through.

“To be fair, I thought both of the disallowed goals were marginal.

“On another day, we could easily have seen both of them given and won the game as a result.

“The result wasn’t what we wanted, but it can happen when you make so many changes.

“We got lucky that Holbeach United lost really, otherwise we’d have dropped down to fifth.

“Overall, not our best game but I suppose no harm was done.”

Knights: Lovelace, Gaukroger (Beck 63), Field (Jackson 55), Ross, Cartwright, Vince, Beeson, West (Maltby 63), Edwards, Eyett, Wright. Not used: Wilson, Nuttell.
