Cenk Acar had given Spalding a 42nd minute lead from the penalty spot, only for Nathan Whitehead to be red carded for the Tulips for violent conduct on the stroke of half-time.
The ten-man Tulips held out until 17 minutes from time when Kyle Diskin levelled for Newcastle with a free-kick.
The point keeps Spalding ahead of their visitors in the table on goal difference, but they are three points adrift of table-topping Shaw Lane.
Spalding have a rearranged fixture this Saturday when they travel to Newcastle for a quick-fire return clash.
