Taylor-made guest for students

Former Great Britain hockey goalkeeper and Olympic medallist Ian Taylor was the special guest at Spalding Grammar School’s annual sports celebration evening.

 
Taylor, who was a member of the bronze-winning squad at the Seoul Olympics in 1988, gave an inspired talk about his experiences and how school sport was the springboard to his career.
The event was an opportunity for the school to reflect upon its sporting success.

 
Students were awarded with full colours, half colours or certificates of achievement.

 
Seven students – Charles Willis, Thomas Moxon, Jack Patrick, Thomas Wide, Jordan Butcher, Alistair Morgan and David Thomas – prepared and delivered speeches to summarise their year group’s sporting year.

 
Two other students – Jonathan Manton and Jack Drury – spoke about leadership opportunities in school.

 
The evening ended with a poignant farewell to Mr Arnold who has supported the physical education department for a number of years.

 
Students who won special awards, including the Sportsman of the Year, were: Year 7 – Matthew Peach, Year 8 – Jonah Gill, Year 9 – Brandon Andrews, Year 10 – Patrick Harrington, Year 11 – Jordan Butcher, Seniors – David Thomas.
