Table tennis: Spalding and District League gets a boost from Round Table and Ladies’ Circle

Last week the Spalding and District Table Tennis League were very pleased to receive a donation from Spalding Round Table and Ladies Circle – which will help support the League’s summer coaching scheme for juniors.

Emma Potts, Louise Luck, Mark Le Sage, Matt Clark, Bill Rai and league member Matt Cole presented the cheque on their behalf to President Jean White and Chairman Kelvin Preville along with three of the League’s junior members.

Some of the money has helped to purchase some new equipment to assist in that aim. In return, the league will provide help in the running of a table tennis event.

Play in the league saw six matches, two of which only involved one game. Division One leaders South Holland and opponents Nets n Edges were one of those and Jean

White won the resulting game pushing their lead to five points.

Jokers are now in second place having defeated Mine’s a Pint in five games of straight ends, with Wes Roper and Guntars Briedes scoring.

Moulton SE are level with Jokers but drop to third on countback.

They faced JDM in a close match, going down in the first game but levelling and then going ahead after the doubles.

However, JDM’s Tom Chesworth won a second singles before father Jon rounded the match off with a win. That brings the winners within three of second spot.

Outsiders moved away from the bottom thanks to a point gained against Underdogs, but that was the total of their success. Garry Wilkinson took that point in four but

Dylan Taylor and Kelvin Preville won the other four in threes.

In Division Two, Rusty Nails closed in to two behind the leaders after a win over Hit and Hope.

Ping Wang scored both points for the losers coming from behind in both games for wins in five and showing how much she has improved.

Nails’ Richard Matthews and John Hayter took the middle two singles and the doubles for a 3-2 win.

Final game saw Assassins’ Carlos Caneiro defeat Jack Sawyer in the only game played.

Anyone else wishing to try the sport will be most welcome at Spalding High School Sports Hall on a Tuesday (7.30pm-10pm) at £4 for the evening.
