Table tennis round-up: Preville claims two titles on Spalding and District League finale

Kelvin Preville claimed two trophies as the Spalding and District Table Tennis League completed its 2018/19 season last week.

The Roy Gibson final proved a close affair, with Preville defeating Reece Kerry 24-31, 31-29, 31-29.

Preville was also awarded the trophy for the Hard Bat competition.

Meanwhile, South Holland and Underdogs completed their Moulton Shield final – with the Holland pair of John Gilbert and Piotr Olstowska taking the title 4–1.

Another competition decided was the Doubles final, which went to Gilbert and Jean White 11-9, 12-10, 3-11, 11-2 against Jeremy Hitcham and Andrew Hay.

In Division One, Outsiders’ two unconfirmed matches against Moulton SE and JDM were awarded as 5-0 losses, though they have little effect on the table, simply confirming positions.

The league is now looking towards the summer sessions.

They usually run from 7pm-10pm at Spalding High School, but with school exams starting the coming weeks will be restricted to part of the hall and the times amended to 8pm-10pm.

The nights of May 14, 21 and 28 will see four tables in action, the same as on June 4 and 11. However, on June 18 and 25 up to six will be available.

During July and August, the hours will revert to 7pm-10pm with up to six tables in use.

The normal visitor fee will apply to all comers at £4 per evening.

Anyone wishing to try the sport will be most welcome at the High School Sports Hall on any of those evenings, no matter their level of experience.
