Table tennis round-up: Duo seal Val Mackey Doubles crown in Spalding and District League

The winners of the Val Mackey Doubles were decided on the latest night of Spalding and District Table Tennis League action.

Sadly, the turnout was less than impressive – meaning there was just one group, with a total of ten games to be played on the night at Spalding High School.

This did, however, mean that players had the chance to play to five ends rather than three.

The draw for partners tries to place a more able player with someone of a lower ranking.

The teams were Davey/Hay, White/Beadle, Hitcham/Wilkinson, Hammond/Dumitrache and Roper was partnered with Matthews.

It was Roper and Matthews, who won all four of their matches, who were the overall winners.

Closely behind them were Hammond and Dumitrache, who only missed out due to being defeated by the winners.

On the league front, JDM convincingly beat Jokers 5-0. Ashberry and Cox were a strong partnership in the doubles with the scores 11-8, 11-2 and 11-5 against Roper and Briedes.

Newside’s Walter and Quinton played South Holland’s Gilbert and Hammond. Quinton had a good game against Gilbert, taking it to five ends, but was unable to take the game.

The other four games went to three ends as Newside took the win 5-0.

Rusty Nails played TNC, however Cole was unavailable to play again, leaving Louis playing both his singles. Both of his games went to four ends, Matthews took the first point however Louis proved too much for Hayter, leaving the match at 1-1.

Elsewhere, Nets and Edges decided to finish off their match, brought forward from December 10. Hammond played both of his singles and took Sawyer to five ends before holding on to take the win.

He also beat Kerry, this time in four ends, to give South Holland a 4-1 win.
