Long Sutton Seconds were unable to build on a solid start as they fell to a one-wicket win at home to Freiston L&L in Division One of the South Lincs Border League.
Their top-order all struck double figures but failed to kick-on, with Aron John (30) top-scoring. That was still good enough to reach a decent 109/3 but wickets fell quickly after that as they succumbed for 146.
The visitors limped along to 78/4 but a middle-order revival led by captain Abdul Moeed (35no) saw them reach 133/5 before Daniel Plant (4-10) swung the game in Sutton’s favour as they took four wickets for the addition of only four runs. However, the last pair dug in to reach their target.
Sunday saw Long Sutton Colts knock Bircham off the top of the Mid-Norfolk League Kevin Grimmer Division table with an 84-run success.
Oli Taylor and Jake Burton both scored 21 in a solid second-wicket stand and a late-innings blast from Plant (31) saw them reach 188.
Opener Toby Carter (60no) tried to make a game of it but none of his partners could reach double figures and they were skittled for 104.
Ellis Redden (3-20) led the charge with Burton (2-5), Josh Baker (2-13) and Archie Baker (2-11) taking two wickets each.
