Spalding United Supporters’ Club say it is raising funds for new floodlights at the ground as a thank you to its chairman.
The group has launched an online fundraiser looking to raise £10,000 to replace the lights at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.
It’s currently being turned into an all-weather pitch at a cost of £1m funded by the chairman Andrew Killingsworth.
And Tulips Supporters’ Club chairman Paul Parkin said members wanted to say thank you for that donation by doing their own fundraising.
“In my view the £1m renovation of the pitch is a generous gift by the chairman to the community,” Paul said. “We wanted to do something ourselves for the club and after speaking with them, that’s why we’ve set up the fundraiser for the floodlights.
“Andrew is putting in this money and we wanted to say thank you.”
Spalding United are targeting moving up the leagues and will be among the favourites for promotion from the Southern League Central Premier next season to the National League next year.
Zoe Cawley has set up the Go Fund Me page Spalding United FC – TSC Floodlight Fundraising which also praises the volunteers who help at the club.
“We are very lucky as a club and fans to receive this gift to enhance our stadium, however, there are still areas of the stadium to be improved.
“Our current floodlights have been at the stadium for around 45 years and, at present, they are inadequate and will not meet ground grading requirements going forward.
“The club are near to securing partial funding for the floodlights, however, the remainder will still need to be funded by the club.
“The new floodlights will be more energy efficient, better quality and will give an all-round better match day experience for the fans.
“The new proposed LED floodlights will also enable matches to be televised in the future should the opportunity arise, perhaps a good cup run may also see us on the TV this year like other teams in our league – who knows what the 2025/26 season will bring.
“It’s certainly an exciting time to be a Tulips fan and as a committee we need your support to raise these all-important funds for our club, it’s a chance for us to say thank you to our chairman for his continued support and generosity.
“As a community, we can all be a part of bringing a whole new meaning to ‘Tuesday night under the lights’.”
