A South Holland family are grieving the sudden death of a much loved 38-year-old dad of three.
Adam Gaunt collapsed at his Holbeach St Johns home and died on July 13, leaving a wife and three children aged 13, 11 and five.
A construction worker by trade, Adam (pictured right)was also a tractor driver and worked with Naylor Farms.
“He was the kind of person who would give you his last £5 if someone needed it. He could be blunt and stubborn as well, but was such a lovely man,” said his wife Rebecca.
The couple were just 16 when they first met and were together for ten years before marrying at Fleet Church in 2015.
“It was the week before New Year’s Eve when we met. It was long before mobile phones or social media, and he phoned my home every day for a week,” she said.
Both of them remained close to a group of friends who were witness to their meeting.
“We are still all very close, which is lovely. He had a lot of friends and they have all helped to pay for his funeral service which is so kind,” said Rebecca.
Adam studied construction at Boston College when he left school, and outside of work, shooting was his main passion.
“He spent a lot of time shooting with his dad Graham.
“Both our boys, William and George, are following in his footsteps and they will go with their grandad,” added Rebecca.
Adam had suffered a stroke seven years ago and spent some time in hospital.
“He fell off the back of a tractor and trailer and landed on his head, which caused a stroke. He recovered well and had been fine since,” said Rebecca.
The couple had been together for 21 years and married for ten. They spent time renovating their first home while living in a caravan.
“We had both boys, and a Labrador. He had to have a dog for his shooting, and we renovated the house we bought together at the age of 18. When we got married in 2019 we moved home and started work on our current house in Holbeach St Johns.
“Since Adam died I have had so many offers from friends to come and finish the work that should be done by the end of the summer.
“People have been so kind, he had so many friends and was so well-known,” said Rebecca.
The day before his death, Adam had been complaining of feeling unwell.
“He wasn’t there when I woke up in the morning. I saw a blanket on the sofa downstairs and thought he had slept there.
“But I found him on the kitchen floor and it was too late,” she said.
Both Adam and Rebecca are local to the area and attended Pinchbeck and Whaplode Primary schools respectively.
Adam leaves his twin sister Rebecca, sisters Kimberley and Sasha and brother Ricky.
Along with sons George and William, he also leaves a daughter Daisy.
His funeral is due to be held on Friday, August 23 at 1pm with a wake following at the Tigers Club in Holbeach.
