Spalding Cycling Club are toasting another highly successful Lincs League cyclo cross season after enjoying impressive success in nearly all of the categories.
It couldn’t have gone much better for the club in the under-12 girls’ championship, as Molly Peel took top spot ahead of team-mate Emily Richards in what was a very tight tussle.
The girls were seventh and 11th respectively in the overall under-12 championship, in which Bryn Richards took a fine third place with Ben Norton in fifth. Also in the same group, brother and sister Ed and Mimi Gurney placed 21st and 59th.
The under-14 champion-ship was dominated by Jake Norton, who won each event he started and took second place in the overall Youth Championship standings. With Norton representing Sherwood Pines SRAM RT, the top Spalding rider was Cameron Neilson in his first season in the under-14 age group, who placed third overall with Tom Wright making up the team in eighth.
Norton’s Sherwood Pines team-mate Matt Ellis placed fifth overall within the under-16 category, while the first rider in Spalding club kit was Will Gurney in eighth.
Tilly Gurney, making the switch back and forward between velodrome and cyclo cross, was the first girl for Spalding in 11th place.
Meanwhile, Tom Webster took 12th, Megan Kendall was 15th and Tom and Sophie Wright were 19th and 20th to make up the teams.
In addition to Norton, the Youth Championship overall standings (under-14s and under-16 results combined) featured eight more Spalding-based riders, all in the top 21.
They were Cameron Neilson (sixth), Will Gurney (tenth), Tom Webster (11th), Tilly Gurney (12th and second under-16 girl), Matt Ellis (15th), Tom Wright (18th), Megan Kendall (20th) and Sophie Wright (21st).
The overall seniors’ category had Ben Moore in a fine 16th place, earned from just two event. Andy Bowser finished 35th, while Sam Bentley fared well in his first season as a senior.
In the Vets’ Championship, seven club members all fared well. Adam Ellis was 18th overall, having completed just two races, while Gareth Richards managed 20th.
Chris Peel and Neil Palmer were 24th and 25th respectively, with Shane Norton 30th, Simon Wright 32nd and Vic Neilson 54th.
The Vets 50 and 60 championships featured Chris Bettinson filling 13th spot, while Gary Bentley was further down in 27th in the V50. Derek Chamberlain was Spalding’s only rider in the V60, with one win and a second earning him fifth overall.
