Substance over style for Pinchbeck United chief Dunn as they aim to close on title

After seeing their Easter games washed out, Pinchbeck United player/boss Ian Dunn admits that his team’s bid to wrap-up the ChromaSport UCL Division One title has become a little bit harder.

Although the Knights are still sitting pretty at the top, some eight points clear of Potton United with two games in hand, they must now play five games in the next two weeks.

That starts with trips to Burton Park Wanderers (Saturday, 3pm) and Irchester United (Tuesday, 8pm), with Dunn not bothered how his side secure the minimum of eight points they need to secure the title.

“We hoped that we might have got the title wrapped up by now,” conceded Dunn. “Nothing has really changed, but we do now have a few more tricky away trips to fit in.

“The complexion of our games may have changed, but my confidence in the lads hasn’t – I’m sure we’ll find a way to win.

“I’ll be honest, I don’t really care how we get the job done. At this point, it’s about winning games and getting over the line.

“It doesn’t matter how we play or perform, it’s all about the result for me.

“Burton are capable of a good result on their day, so we’ll have to be careful.

“Irchester have been in a bit of a slump and perhaps we’re playing them at the right time.

“They do have a good manager and two dangerous strikers, which we won’t take lightly.

“It’s a harder test on a Tuesday night than it would have been on a Saturday, but we’ve won away midweek many times this season.”

Dunn has no new injury concerns ahead of the two away trips, meaning he has a full squad to pick from.
