Students mean business

Young businessmen and women at Spalding Parish Church of England Day School have been getting into the ‘World of Work.

The school puts on the programme annually which ends with pupils setting up a money making venture using £5.

The children were initially taught how to build a business by selling ice lollies.

They also came up with their own business ideas, visited real work places to get an idea and drew up their own business plan.

Businesses which got involved include Springfields, Baytree, Coocumber, The Shoppe, Becca’s Ice Cream Parlour and Rookes.

Business ideas were then pitched to a Dragons Den style panel including head Diane Mulley and experts from Springfields.

Before the end of term the children are set to open their businesses for other students.

A spokesman for the school said: “The aim of the programme is to provide children with clear and accurate aspirations about a career path from the age of 16.

“The project aims to draw together the learning from Key Stage Two in an entrepreneurial project.

“When they leave Spalding Parish Church of England Day School, children will have an understanding of the pathway to achieve their aspirations and understand what skills and knowledge they need at secondary school and beyond to help them achieve their goals.”
