The city streets of New York are coming to the rural roads of Spalding as two town secondary schools bring West Side Story to their stage.
Revolving around rivalry and romance, students from Spalding’s High and Grammar Schools are putting on a performance you won’t want to miss.
Backed by a live orchestra, pupils invite you to their literally all singing, all dancing production tonight (February 27) and tomorrow, starting at 7pm in Spalding Grammar School’s main hall, the postcode is PE11 2XH.
West Side Story takes the audience back to 1950s Manhattan where rival gangs the Sharks and the Jets fight each other for their right to rule.
Based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, it follows the tragic tale of forbidden love between Tony – a former Jet, and Maria – the sister of the Shark’s leader.
Director of Music at Spalding Grammar School, Alex Howman, said, “The students have put their hearts and souls into rehearsals and we can’t wait for audiences to see their efforts live on stage.
“As well as having hugely talented actors, singers, musicians and dancers, we are also very lucky to have a great backstage crew of pupils looking after elements like sound, lights and props. It’s a real team effort to put on this production and I am so proud of them for all their hard work.’
Tickets cost £8 for adults and £6 for those aged 16 and under. They are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/

Mrs Howman added: “We welcome everyone along to our version of West Side Story whether you have connections with the schools or not. Come and share the magic of this much-loved musical with us. I’m confident you will leave with a smile on your face and one of its well-known songs in your head.”
