A wellness centre and a play café will be two new additions to a Spalding shopping street.
Planning applications have been approved for both, completely separate, premises on The Crescent.
Afterglow Tanning Ltd has been successful in its application for a change of use to turn the former Bookmark store into a ‘wellness and community hub’.
The proposals include creating a sauna, steam room and ice bath alongside three treatment rooms and sunbeds.
There’s also set to be an exercise room and a pilates studio.
The planning officer’s report which passed the application states: “The over-arching aim of a wellness centre would be most appropriate within a town centre, as it would increase the potential clientele pool and the number of residents who could benefit from the facilities.
“The Crescent is currently a vacant unit within a prominent corner of the primary shopping area. Its vacancy directly harms the vitality of the area.
“The reinstatement of this unit would therefore be a significant benefit to the vitality of the primary shopping area.”
A spokesman for Afterglow Tanning said: “What started as a dream is now becoming reality.
“Thank you to every single client who has supported us, believed in us and grown with us. This next chapter is going to be something special.”
Just a few yards away, Little Berries Cafe Ltd has also been allowed to open in the former Wright’s Flooring and Carpet shop.
It too had applied for change of use planning permission, but planning officers have ruled it didn’t need permissions as its current class already covers it.
The application did initially include an extractor fan, but it was taken out of the plans.
A spokesman for Little Berries said it will be ‘a welcoming space where little ones can play, explore and get creative with fun crafts – while grown-ups relax and enjoy a coffee’.
